I have been reading a lot of great posts recently from AHA Today. Today they posted a story and link to a University of Iowa project, which allows the amateur or common historian like you or me to help transcribe written letters from the Civil War.
I already transcribed one. You should give it a try and be a part of history. It's amazing what you learn while doing it also!
